The Section 20A Permit System is by far the best option by allowing you up to 3,100ha
to detect on, that is a lot of ground to cover. It is the result of negotiations with the Amalgamated
Prospectors and Leaseholders Association of Western Australia and resource industry groups.
The Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources amended the Mining Act 1978 and Regulations
1981 in February 2001
so that holders of a Western Australian Miner's Right can apply for a permit to metal detect on a
granted Exploration Licence.
The visiting prospector who plans to spend several weeks in the Goldfields
is disadvantaged because of the 21-day waiting period you have to wait before you can legally start detecting.
The permit holder is given access to a selected area within a granted exploration licence for
a period of three months and can use hand held tools only (e.g. metal detectors) . I have applied for numerous
permits for visiting prospectors and can do the same for you too. Knowing that the gold you find is legally
yours is a great feeling. To find out more about the permit system, email your name and postal address
to me by clicking on the Contact Us option and I will
send you an information pack containing all the details you need.
The information packs contain specific details
in regard to your rights and obligations.
